Description
The ProbeSeq GFP PeptideProbe™ Targeting System enables selective molecular recognition of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), a widely used reporter protein for monitoring gene expression, protein localization, and cellular signaling in biological research.
GFP is a 27 kDa fluorescent protein originally derived from Aequorea victoria, exhibiting strong green emission at approximately 509 nm upon excitation near 488 nm. Because GFP is extensively used as a fusion tag in engineered cells, viral vectors, and transgenic models, reliable detection tools are essential for quantitative analysis and biosensor integration.
This peptide-based targeting system provides high-specificity binding to GFP or GFP-fusion constructs, enabling detection independent of fluorescence intensity and supporting surface-based and electrochemical sensing workflows.
Biological Target Information
Target protein: Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)
Molecular weight: approximately 27 kDa
Origin: Aequorea victoria jellyfish
Excitation maximum: approximately 488 nm
Emission maximum: approximately 509 nm
Function: Fluorescent reporter for gene expression and protein tracking
Common use: Fusion tagging, live-cell imaging, synthetic biology
The probe recognizes structural motifs within the GFP β-barrel structure, allowing detection of both native GFP and GFP-tagged recombinant proteins.
Detection Mechanism
The peptide ligand binds specifically to conformational epitopes on GFP through engineered protein–peptide interactions. Target binding enables capture of GFP-tagged proteins on functionalized surfaces, fluorescence-independent detection of reporter constructs, signal generation in electrochemical and optical biosensors, and quantitative measurement of reporter expression levels.
Binding is optimized for stable interaction under physiological buffer conditions and complex biological sample matrices.
