Description
The ProbeSeq Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) Nanobody is a recombinant single-domain antibody (VHH) engineered for high-affinity and selective binding to human GFAP, an intermediate filament protein released following astrocyte injury and central nervous system damage. This nanobody supports research-use diagnostic assay development, neuroinjury biomarker detection, and biosensor integration.
GFAP is a structural cytoskeletal protein expressed primarily in astrocytes and is widely recognized as a sensitive biomarker of traumatic brain injury, stroke, neuroinflammation, and neurodegenerative disease. Rapid and sensitive detection of GFAP is central to neurotrauma monitoring, disease progression studies, and development of point-of-care neurological diagnostics.
Derived from camelid heavy-chain antibody architecture, this nanobody consists of a single monomeric VHH domain (~15 kDa) providing high specificity, strong binding kinetics, and superior structural stability. Compared with conventional antibodies, nanobodies offer enhanced thermal stability, reduced steric hindrance, and efficient surface immobilization, making them ideal for electrochemical sensors, microfluidic platforms, and high-sensitivity assay systems.
Typical assay workflows use sample input volumes ranging from approximately 5–50 µL depending on platform configuration and detection method. The nanobody is compatible with serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, cell lysates, and buffered biological samples following assay optimization.
